The sacred church undertakes the name of our holy mother Mary, which was instituted by the village Cleric Reverend Ibrahim Gergis Hajj on the 8th of August, 1908 AD.
Later on, the church was reconstructed on the 6th of July 1965, during the governing rule of the Orthodox Bishopric Metropolite, Elia Karam with the help of Minister Reverend Ibrahim Wadih Hajj and church’s attorney Gerges Ghosn Wakim Hajj in respect of the whole Hajj family.

The holy church was founded during the governing rule of “Lamean” in the 17th century. It has been stated that a religious man named “Abou Askar” was devoted to the miraculous Saint, and decided to built three churches holding his name: Saint Elias in Mansourieh for Greek Orthodox, Saint Elias in Mkalles for both the Marounites and Greek Orthodox, and Saint Elias in Jisr el Basha.

During the end of 19th century Rev. Benjamine Haddad and Rev. Mikhael Elias Hajj served in the church, followed by Rev. Elias Yazbeck Hamouche by end of 1940.
From 1940 till 1950 Rev. Espiridon Bitar, proceeded by Rev. Greogorious Bardawil from 1950 till 1958. Rev. Mikhael Haddad took over during 1958 till 1978. In 1982 Rev. Sammeul Matta commenced serving up till today.

Bibliography of Rev. Ibrahim Wadih Hajj
Rev. Ibrahim Wadih Hajj was born in 1915, his parents name were Wadih and Anestasia Hajj. He was brought up in a Christian family where both his grandparents were priests, Rev. Ibrahim Melhem Hajj from his mother’s side, and Rev. Mikhael Assaad Hajj from his father’s side.
He graduated from high School at Charlie Saad in Choueifat, and later on joined the American University of Beirut where he graduated in Business Administration.
In 1944 he got married to Nelly Najib Hajj, and gave birth to seven children, 3 girls and 4 boys. He was anointed as the minister of Saint Mary Church Mansourieh in 1945, where he served for 46 consecutive years until he died in 1991 and was buried in the same church.
